Hey Mama Hey!
Happy Friday Mama. It’s a snowy day here in Chicago and I have to admit, its SO pretty. When ObieQ woke up this morning I took him to the window to see the flakes falling and he was impressed. My 1yo is a wild child and could not be satisfied to just look out the window. He immediately tried to jump out while moving his hands to say “More…More”. We are laying low today because we are heading to the Bulls game tonight and I want him to be in a great mood. Hey at least a Mama can try!
This weekend your kids might be getting a little antsy of being indoors so I have 3 stimulating events this weekend. Butterflies, Storytime and Sensory Play. I have events perfect for you!
Here we go, your 3 “Freshly Picked Events” for this weekend:

- Event: First Flight Butterfly Release
- Day: Daily @ 2p
- Where: Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
- Cost & Ticket Info: Free w/Admission Click here for deets
- Mama Fresh Two Cents: If this early snowfall has you feeling down, you should pack up your little ones and head over to the Nature Museum where it always feels like summer. I took ObieQ to this and I don’t know who was more excited, me or him! The release is for butterflies taking their first flights ever. These beginners are perfect for your little one to observe since they are a little slow and often even land on you for an up close look!
- Event: Storytime at the 61st St. Farmers Market: “The Joys of Being a Little Black Boy”
- Day: Saturday Nov 11 11:30a-12:30p
- Where: Build Coffee
- Cost & Ticket Info: Free Click here for deets
- Mama Fresh Two Cents: First of all, you know how much I love storytime! So this week we are featuring storytime at the indoors 61st St Farmers Market. Author Valerie Reynolds will be there reading her new book “The Joys of Being a Little Black Boy”. I am all for Black Boy Joy so this is one storytime that is tailormade for my ObieQ. You can hang after, or come early to check out the 61st St Farmers Market. Reading and local fresh food = Mama Fresh Heaven
- Event: Sensory Sunday
- Day: Sunday 11/12 2p-3p
- Where: Harold Washington Library
- Cost & Ticket Info: Free Click here for deets
- Mama Fresh Two Cents: This summer the Harold Washington Library went under renovations. Part of this improvement was a brand spanking new children’s library. If you haven’t checked it out yet, this Sunday is your perfect opportunity. Head over to library for an hour of sensory exploration! You and your little one can rotate through interactive sensory stations. Sensory playtimes are some of my favorite to attend. I can see what sparks Q’s interest and often mimic it at home!
So get out there and explore the city! When you attend a “Mama Freshly Picked Events”, use the hashtag #MamaFreshChi so I can see you and your little one looking all FRESH! If you see me and ObieQ out in these streets PLEASE come over and say “Hey Mama Hey”!
